June 16th, 2006 | Respect update

Respect has had a couple of great gigs in the past few weeks. On June 5, we played at Cornelia Street Cafe here in NY, where as part of the Bulgarian Seasons festival we performed all new music inspired by Bulgarian folklore. We were joined by special guest Dan Weiss on drums. There was a good crowd filled with many familiar faces (and bodies, attached), and things went off without a hitch--although we played some Bulgarian wedding music, during the show there were, as far as I could tell, no Bulgarian weddings, or really any weddings of which to speak.

This past Monday, June 12, we played at the Rochester International Jazz Festival. It was the first time in almost 3 years that we played with Malcolm Kirby on bass. We had a great time, and I think the crowd did, too. Here's a video of the encore:

Stay tuned to the Respect site and to our MySpace page for upcoming appearances. We'll be playing in Rochester, Toronto, and Michigan in late August and early September, and throughout the Northeast in December.

In other news, there are several new gigs listed, including SpiN, Big Swifty, and Dave Crowell & Naked Brunch.

April 15th, 2006 | Yahaha

is in full swing! We had a fun gig at Hank's Saloon on Thursday, and we have some great gigs coming up, including two this week. On Thursday, April 20, we're playing as part of a double-bill with Dave Crowell & Naked Brunch at the Knitting Factory starting at 10. I'll be playing with Naked Brunch first, then Respect comes on at 11 with guest Take Toriyama on drums.

Then, on Sunday, April 23, Respect plays at Bar4 in Park Slope from 8-11pm. Part of a great series called Konceptions, we'll be spreading Respect around like none other as we help welcome Ted back from a European jaunt. Come early and come often!

December 12th, 2005 | Respect gigs! Huzzah!

New: various site updates, several events, and much more soon to come, but right is the time for Respect! This Sunday, December 18, the Respect Sextet will perform its first gig since the performance that led to the critically acclaimed Respect In You. Respect will be playing at Hank's Saloon, 46 Third Avenue (corner of Atlantic) in Brooklyn. We'll start at 7:30pm. There is no cover, and there will be free food! Please come out and give some respect (you gotta give it to get it!). After playing at Hank's, Respect will head upstate for a few gigs, including the OHM Lounge in Syracuse on Tuesday, December 20 at 9pm, and the Bop Shop in Rochester on Wednesday the 21st at 8pm. For full details, see Events. Also, now is the perfect time to give the gift of Respect. Order safely and securely at respectsextet.com. From now until December 31, CDs are only $10 each! They make great stocking stuffers!

August 2nd, 2005 | Gigs, review

Upcoming events in Rochester and New York.

Also, Robert Iannapollo has a nice review in AllAboutJazz of the set with Ted Poor and Ralph Alessi at the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

June 24th, 2005 | Site updates, move

I've made some long-needed updates to the site. Have a look around, and check back soon to see even more changes.

In other news, I am now living in New York City. The Respect Sextet, which, incidentally, has been garnering rave reviews for its new CD, Respect In You (available online for secure ordering at the Respect website--buy one if you haven't already!), will soon reunite and make its NYC debut! More word on that soon.
